The Youth Summit on Child Poverty is very interesting to me because I like to learn about how Child Poverty effects children who live near me.

I am a good student who likes to help others I have been a Peer Helper for 2 years and a volunteer with the Cape Breton Regional Hospital Foundation since I was 5 years old. I have helped raise over $5000.00 with a Penny Drive at school in order to help sick people stay at home for their care.

In Grade 3, I was given the Leadership Award, for good behaviour and leadership skills. I think I would be a good representative of Greenfield Elementary because I am involved in my School's activities, I am a kind and thoughtful and can learn from this experience.

Going to this Summit would also help me learn what  we all can do to help make sure that every child has the food, education and housing they deserve,

Thank You,

Adam MacLean

I think I should be selected because I would love to make a difference for all Children in Canada and around the world. Poverty is known all too well in my hometown New Waterford, Nova Scotia, we are a small community with more then HALF of our town's people living in Poverty. Poverty does not discriminate any one person or place. Poverty can happen to anyone at anytime. Lack of Education, Funding, Jobs and Healthcare all affect our livs everyday.

With out proper Education Funding, we can not teach our children the skills they need to become successful adults who can make knowledgeable decisions in life. Without Jobs in our communities our parents can not support their families, leaving them no choice but to move away or struggle to survive on Minimum Wage with Benefits or go on Welfare.

Without proper Healthcare Funding impacts our future also, without Doctors or Nurses we can not properly diagnose any disabilities that our children might struggle with everyday. Without the proper diagnosis we struggle to learn and suceed in our future.

Poverty is a very scary reality which leaves parents to struggle and support their children. Paying bills and buying food are everyday struggles, let alone Christmas, Birthdays, Grading Day or Sports.

I live in Poverty. My parents struggle to make sure we have what we need and what we want but don't need. There is always food on our table and a roof over our heads with my Dad being in and out of the Hospital the last 3 years with Heart Failure, he can not work and with my Mom working it's not enough to pay everything, but they try everyday to provide a happy, stable life for myself snd my sisters.

We don't take things for granted, we appriciate small things like having each other.

Someday I will make a change in this world, it may not be big, but it will be something.

ALL CHILDREN DESERVE A FUTURE TO SHINE AND I AM ONE OF THOSE CHILDREN AND I WILL SHINE.

Thank You,
Joella MacIsaac
